It's nearly time for South Tyneside's Winter Parade
The annual Winter Parade is the start of the festive activities in South Tyneside and will take place on Friday, December 5 from 5.30pm. We’re delighted to continue to work in partnership with South Tyneside Council to support the community engagement work of the Parade.
The Parade will make its way along Ocean Road and on to the Promenade, where the fun will continue with performances and activities for all the family.
The theme for the parade is Woodland Winter Wonderland, and our artists Lynda Nelson, Kate Hunter, Laura Marley and Emma Sheridan have been working with local community groups in preparation of the Parade.
These groups include South Tyneside Youth Services, Ocean Rd Community Association Youth Group, South Tyneside Family Hubs, St Matthews Primary School, South Tyneside Young Carers, Ashdown Care and Ocean Choices. Over the last few months, the groups and artists have been working hard to co-create structures, costumes, parade art and lanterns for the Parade.
Through funding from The Foyle Foundation and Postcode Neighbourhood Trust we've also been able to offer drop in workshops for South Tyneside residents and skills development opportunities over the past few months to local artists, community groups and students with nationally acclaimed Handmade Productions, ensuring more people develop confidence and skills in parade art. 23 people have benefitted from this opportunity.
Pop along to the Parade to see the fantastic work of local groups and the artists involved.
