The Cultural Spring Charity

The Cultural Spring Charity was created to help sustain and grow the impact of The Cultural Spring. Building on the success of our Creative People and Places work, the Charity supports our mission to make arts and culture a lasting part of everyday life in Sunderland and South Tyneside—by attracting new funding, strengthening partnerships, and creating more opportunities for local communities to get involved.

The Cultural Spring Charity was established in September 2020 as part of the legacy of The Cultural Spring’s Creative People and Places (CPP) programme. Its purpose is to support the project’s values and secure new investment in arts and culture from a range of sources, including trusts and foundations.

The Charity’s current focus is working with partners to ensure The Cultural Spring’s work continues in South Tyneside, following the end of CPP funding there in March 2023. This change is due to South Tyneside no longer meeting the eligibility criteria for Creative People and Places funding, based on Arts Council England’s Active Lives data.

Our trustees remain committed to the future. They are actively developing new ways for communities across Sunderland and South Tyneside to engage with arts and culture—building on everything The Cultural Spring has achieved so far and looking ahead to new opportunities.
