Go & See - The Bench

The Customs House, South Shields

Fri 20th June, 6.45pm

Suitable for ages 14+

Our second Go and See visit in June will be to see Jeff Brown’s moving tale of love, loss and football – The Bench – at The Customs House.

The play is a touching and humorous tale of two young people struggling to survive against the odds in their very different lives. This poignant, heartwarming and sensitive love story is set against the darker side of professional football and life on the economic edge.

Vicky is a single mum, overwhelmed by everyday pressures, while Adi – the local team’s new signing – is struggling to find his place, on and off the pitch. Seemingly worlds apart, the pair meet by chance on a park bench and discover they have more in common than they might at first have imagined.

This Go and See opportunity will include a Meet and Greet session with Jeff after the play.

Tickets cost a discounted £5 plus a booking fee.

These tickets are subsidised by The Cultural Spring, through funding we have received from Postcode Community Trust, raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. This opportunity is for residents living in South Tyneside and Sunderland.

Go and See

Our Go and See programme aims to ensure that people living in Sunderland and South Tyneside get the chance to experience the best arts and cultural events happening across the North East and beyond.

We’re working with theatres, galleries, festivals and artists to gain access to special events, back stage tours and discounted tickets for people living in our wards.

We hope that Go and See will help encourage people to experience something new without having to worry too much about the cost of tickets or transport.

We have previously had Go and See visits to theatre shows at Sunderland Empire, The Customs House, The Festival of Thrift, The Northern Children’s Book Festival at MIMA and more.
